Hello! Welcome to my page of woodwind links and information. I've tried to gather some interesting links pertaining to woodwind instruments. If you know of any other good sites, feel free to let me know. This list is from an old webpage of mine. I will definately be updating it as soon as I get the chance.

WHAT I DO. I am a freelance musician, specifically a woodwind doubler. A woodwind doubler is basically someone who plays more than one woodwind instrument, usually specializing in one. My principal instrument is clarinet. There are 5 basic woodwind instruments: clarinet, flute, oboe, bassoon, and saxophone. Each of these instruments has a "family". For instance, in the saxophone family there are 4 different sizes of sax: soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone.

Most of my gigs are in pit orchestras for musical theatre. In musical theatre it is a necessity that a woodwind player knows how to play more than one instrument. There are very few shows that have books for just clarinet, or just flute for example. The books generally have some kind of mixture of instruments (ex. clarinet and sax or flute and oboe). Some reed books have up to 6 different instruments in them.

MY PHILOSOPHY ON EQUIPMENT. I have a somewhat unconventional philosophy regarding "equipment". For some reason, many of today's musicians think they need the most expensive top-of-the-line instrument. Nothing else will do. I, on the other hand, think you can make anything sound good. Of course your main instrument should be the best you can afford, but your "doubles" certainly don't have to be top-of-the-line. Very few of my instruments were bought new. Most of my arsenal was put together by scouring flea markets, antique malls, and pawn shops.

MY EQUIPMENT. Here are some links to info and pics of my instruments. It is quite an eclectic group of "axes". :)
